My last post! Heck yes.
I guess most people would want their last post to be wonderful, but this one probably won't be. I learned in business today that investing isn't really as hard as it seems, and if you start investing young, you can make a lot of money by the time you're 40 or 50. That seems awesome to me, but then again you have to have money to invest. You can even start investing with $25/ month, which isn't that much if you think about what you can buy with that because the value of the American dollar has gone down so much. These days you can barely by a pair of pants or a shirt with $25, so if you just give up one of those things a month, you can invest. I will probably start investing this summer because i will be working 90 hours per paycheck, so i will have money i can set aside. I will also be getting a refund check every semester of about $1200 if i keep my scholarships so i can also invest that. I guess this is all i have to say so i hope my blog hasn't been too boring.
Fad Diets
I love how people go on fad diets and then after they lose the weight they want to, they go back to eating what they want and then they gain the weight back again. Fad diets are just a good way to sucker people into spending money on a certain product so the smarter person gets richer. People should just stick to their food pyramid and diet if they want to lose weight. It's that simple. Sure, it takes more effort than just grabbing something on the go because you may have to cook something, but people would probably enjoy life more if they slowed down to enjoy it. Most people just keep going 90-nothing all the time so they never have time to enjoy anything until it's too late and they're so old they can't go do the things they always wanted to. Just slow down.
Mass Media
The mass media is nice, it helps get news out and other important things and television shows that everyone loves, but the magazines are kind of ridiculous. The magazines like Star, and National Enquirer are entertaining maybe the first few times you read them, but they run the same stuff over and over. They talk about Britney Spears and how she's crazy, Jamie Lynn Spears and how she's too young to be knocked up and on Nickelodeon, and celebrity divorces. Honestly, who really cares?? That's their business and i'm sure we wouldn't like it if our business was all over the place all the time. They're people too, but I guess they asked for it when they got into the business of being in the limelight all the time. Maybe people read these because their lives aren't exciting enough - just like people that gossip all the time.
42 entries
Okay, so i have no idea what to write about now. I think I've written about everything that somewhat matters. maybe if i had done these entries 3 times a week like we were supposed to, i would have more to write about. I didn't have time to write in this thing 3 times a week because of so much work from other teachers.. i.e. Dr. Stengel. Bah Humbug. My roommate and i are watching Golden Girls and this show is hilarious. I love it, but i especially love Reba. That show cracks me up. This entry probably won't be very long, because i'm rambling and i don't know what to talk about, but i really need an A for my scholarship, so I'm going to figure out something to talk about.
What i hated about my paper
I hated a lot of things about my paper. Global warming is a very VERY broad topic so first it was hard to narrow it down and figure out what i wanted to say in the paper. After i figured that out, i made an outline of all the information i wanted to find and i did for the most part. There was more information about the effects of global warming rather than the cause of it, but i still managed to find information. The National Geographic website has a ton of information about it, and it's very interesting. I know that one person can make a difference and i really want to make a difference concerning global warming but i have no clue where i would start because it's not just an American phenomenon, it's worldwide, and i don't speak every language in the world. A lot of people probably want to help but it's just hard to know where to get started.
Obesity in America
I bet Americans wouldn't be so fat if fast food restaurants weren't so accessible and fairly cheap. Americans blame being fat on the fast food places, but i'm pretty sure those places didn't drag them to their store and make them eat the food. I know my Sonic that i work at wouldn't because most of the customers are rude and don't tip so why would we want those people at our Sonic. Working in fast food sucks unless you have friends there and you make it fun. Sometimes you just have to work crappy jobs to get to better ones, but everything usually works out.
One thing i really hate about working in fast food is that customers treat you like you're stupid, like you're doing that for a living for the rest of your life. I'm pretty sure most people with good jobs these days had to work at a job they didn't like and one that wasn't very prestigious, so everyone needs to realize they have been there, done that before.

Gas prices
Gas prices are absolutely ridiculous. i have a job in jacksonville and i'm about to start riding my bike the whole way because there's no reason for these prices to be so high besides the fact that the gas companies know we will have to pay whatever price they set because we're so reliant on getting places in our cars. Central Arkansas or even all of Arkansas should get a better mass transportation system. If you think about it, the majority of people in Arkansas are middle class and poor and definitely don't have the money for gas at these prices, but if they could pay a flat fee for a bus pass or a subway pass, that would be a lot more beneficial. Gas prices can also almost force someone to live on campus because it's going to get really expensive to commute from jacksonville or little rock to conway. The money for gas and the money for a dorm will probably even out, so either way, you pay an arm and a leg for college (after tuition and fees).
paper revisions
I think that revising our papers is stupid if she's just going to give a lower grade than before. what kind of sense does that make? i mean, i answered all the questions she put out to the side on my first draft and then she came up with more questions - why doesn't she just ask all the questions she wants at the same freaking time??? Let me just say i hate this class. I don't need writing skills in my career. I don't see why we have to take gen ed courses because they just suck up more time and money. I wish we didn't have to become "cultured" people, so we could just do our jobs. I'm just ready to get out of school and everyone else probably is too.

Class being cancelled
Class being cancelled was wonderful this morning. i don't have class til 11 after writing, so i didn't have to get up until 10:30 to go to kped because my dorm is almost right across from the the hper. Next semester my classes are starting at 10 if i'm lucky because i do not want early classes, i'm not a morning person at all. that brings up another point - registration is so unfair because it's not like i chose my last name, but even so, i still get the next to last day to register which leaves me with crappy classes. SOOO NOT FAIR. but life isn't fair so i suppose i will learn to live with it. it's been like that all through school too, everything is done by your last name, i think it should just be free game for everyone, just open up everyone's account to register and then it will be first come first serve.
Residential Colleges
I think residential colleges are very nice for those who want to stay on campus. You can go to class in your pajamas and wake up 10 minutes early just to walk down the hall and go to class. it's wonderful actually, which is a down side to moving off campus. There are also a lot of activities for people to get involved in and get to know each other so that's a plus for incoming freshman so they will know some people after they get to college. A down side is, i guess with all parts of college and life, if you don't find a "clique" when you first get here, you won't really be able to find many friends as easy. With dorms in general, it really sucks if you lose your student id because then you can't get in the dorm and you have to rely on people you know to be there to let you in, but that hasn't happened to me, it's happened to my roommate. Overall, residential colleges are the number one choice if you want to live on campus if you don't want to or don't get into the honors college.

Dorm Life
Dorms. There are several pros and cons to living in a dorm. First i will start with the pros. I think the number one reason they are nice is because you don't have to get up early to make the drive to school, you're away from your parents so you can do almost whatever you want (with the restrictions of university policy), and you don't get anyone asking you everyday if you've done your homework. The cons to living in a dorm are a lot longer than the pros i think. A lot of the people in a dorm are very loud and inconsiderate so it's hard to take naps, your roommate can also be loud and inconsiderate at bad times so it can be hard to sleep or do homework then too. There can also be the problem of cleanliness but luckily i have a clean roommate but if i didn't there would be problems because I'm a clean person. Living in a dorm, usually parents won't buy you food to snack on if you have a job. Overall, i won't live in a dorm.
Parking
I think UCA should get more parking that is convenient. I don't mind walking across campus but i don't want to walk from the softball fields and chances are if you ask most people why they're late to class they will tell you it's because of parking. Really, the commuters are screwed because a lot of teachers have policies where so many tardies are an absence and what if someone is late all the time because of parking? they will get too many absences and then when they really need to be absent they're screwed. I suppose it comes down to whether or not you want to live on campus and get up later, or live off of campus and get up super early.
spring fling
The spring fling looked nice, but i didn't go. i don't really hang out with anyone for school because between work and keeping my grades up i don't have any time and that really sucks. I'm sure i will have time for friends later, but i would rather not have time for friends than pay for my college so i'm just as happy just having my fiancee and then making friends later. They aren't really good for much, just for stabbing you in the back and leavin you hangin so i guess they aren't that great after all.
I'm sorry I'm rambling in these posts, i really don't have anything to write about. So i guess i will talk about my major. I'm majoring in business administration because i want to own several mcdonald's stores. A lot of people think i'm weird for it, but i think it's brilliant because you only have to know how to run a business and even if you don't go to college you can do it. You have to go to Hamburg University where McDonald's teaches you how to run a store and you're set.

class
i'm really glad class was optional for today and friday, especially today because i had a doctor's appt at 8 in little rock. It wasn't fun at all, for them to take an x-ray of my small intestine, i had to drink two glasses of Barium, and it tastes like chalk. I wouldn't recommend it for anyone. I also realized i hate getting up at 8:30 so i'm not scheduling anymore classes before 10 for the rest of my college career. I'm not a morning person at all, nor will i ever be. I went to a health fair in McCastlain today for extra credit for KPED, i was only there for about 5-10 minutes but it was actually kind of interesting.
I know my opinion on this really doesn't matter but i don't think we should have to print out so much stuff for this portfolio because as we all know college students don't have that much money and ink isn't cheap. It really doesn't matter to me because i have a job but i don't want to spend my hard earned money on stuff for school. I don't even have to pay for school, so it's even worse. But what do i know, i don't have an english degree...

Brochures
The brochures i picked up for class were for the Marines, Air Force, and the National Guard. Of course i was a little partial because both of my parents are in the National Guard. All of the brochures had at least one thing in common - they all offered benefits about school, tuition, etc. All of these are big plusses for college aged people because college is so expensive and usually people jump right on the bandwagon when they hear "free money". Actually it's not free because when you sign your name, you agree to do whatever they need you to do. If you want to serve your country, then that is wonderful but you can't forget that you owe the military after they give you money. I think it's nice that they see that school is important so they give money for it. The brochure was a lot easier than i thought it would be to make so that was good.
reflection papers
I wrote a reflection paper last year for my english class but i really just made it up because i didn't learn much besides the fact that i like shakespeare's writing. This year however, i have actually learned stuff from being in this writing class. i have learned that i can write A LOT more than i thought i could, i've learned APA formatting because i've never used it before. All i have used since i can remember was MLA formatting. I've also learned how to find bibliography formatters online which probably isn't something i was supposed to learn. I also learned how to slow down and comprehend things i wouldn't have understood before by annotating them and making notes as i went along. The Grant McCracken article was really hard for me to understand before i started making notes and putting some things into my own words. Now i know when i can't understand something i should slow down and take it one sentence at a time.
spring break
I really wish that every college in the state had their spring breaks at the same time so that everyone can hang out all at once. What if you and all of your friends wanted to go somewhere for spring break but they weren't the same? Should you go to the same school just so they can be the same? or should you skip a week of class or make them skip a week of class to go to panama or cancun or where ever you want to go? None of this seems logical to me. If all public colleges spring breaks were the same it would solve a lot of problems and dilemmas. Or maybe you want to spend that spring break with your significant other - the same problems arise so what do you do? if you're a good student, you don't skip school, you find something to do by yourself or with other friends so that you can keep up your grades i suppose. Of course everyone wishes the break was longer, but then when we came back we definitely wouldn't want to do any work. it's like when you're running and you stop - you don't want to start running again, which would be the same thing that happened in college.
Class skippers and droppers
I don't understand why people skip class so much. I know i wake up a lot of mornings and think to myself "man i don't want to go to class this morning" but i go anyways because you can't make something of yourself laying in bed everyday all day. I guess i will see a lot of people drop out of college through the years because of too much partying or lack of motivation, but i have tons of motivation. I want to show the people that used to be my friends that are going nowhere in life that i am so they can envy me and be jealous that they did nothing with their lives. When i get successful owning a lot of McDonald's stores then they will wish they were still my friends but that won't happen. I also don't want to lose my scholarship either, which is another reason i don't skip class. I am required to have 30 hours each academic year and a 3.25 GPA and if i skip class too much i can get dropped and not have 30 hours, and if i don't ever go, i definitely won't make a good enough grade to have a 3.25 so skipping class and dropping out is out of the question for me. I don't enjoy college by any means, but it's just something that has to be done. it's like a stepping stone to get to where you need to be.
the portfolio
i'm really glad i'm an organized person and know where most of my stuff is for this class because otherwise i would probably be screwed when it comes to putting this portfolio together. So far i have found everything i need to put into this portfolio, i just have to gather how many pages of articles that i annotated because i know i did a lot, but i don't know just how many. We did a portfolio at the end of the year in my AP English class last year in high school and it was fairly easy so i'm expecting the same out of this portfolio. I'm not a big fan of class work or school, but i do it so that i can get somewhere in life unlike my old friends that i've lost between now and last summer because they are going nowhere and i am so i had to leave them behind. i couldn't go out and party every night with them because i have a scholarship to keep because i don't want to pay for my college and be in debt when i graduate. I want to be able to start fresh and not worry about debt. I'd rather create debt by buying a new house or a car or something, not paying off student loans until i'm 35. Even though a lot of people come to college to party and have a good time, that's not why i'm here. i'm here to be successful and have a good time after college.
long time no update
So, it's been a long time since i've updated because i've been swamped with other class work, especially world lit II. Anyways, enough about other classes and back to this one. I finally got my global warming paper done and over with, but i had to revise it so now hopefully i have a better grade on it than what i had before. I'm really just ready to get out of school, it's like i have senioritis again but i'm definitely not a senior. I really hated doing all the research for an 8 page paper - it's no fun at all and i never want to do it again, but i will probably have to within the span of 6 more semesters. We've done a lot between now and the last time i updated. We've done a literature review, an 8 page paper, a brochure, and i'm sure i'm missing some more things. I have learned that i'm not going to take a writing class and a world lit class at the same time anymore, especially if it's Dr. Stengel because that man will make you write. I really don't have to take a world lit class anymore because the requirement is one so i don't plan on taking it anymore. I'm not really an english or science kind of person, i would much rather do math or business than these. Overall i think this class was okay, not my favorite but i didn't hate it. i haven't encountered a "favorite" class yet at UCA but i'm sure i'll find one sooner or later.

Annotated Bibliography!!

New measurements of air bubbles in Antarctic ice suggest that global warming was not started with the Industrial Revolution; scientists believe that global warming began during the agricultural Revolution. As humans began to cut down trees and other plants in order to make room for the crops they would plant, carbon dioxide levels began to rise and then 3,000 years later, methane levels began to rise as well. As this started happening, the earth's atmosphere began to become warmer and temperature levels began to rise. In earlier times, scientists believe that the onset of the earth's temperature rising came with the factories and industrialization in the 1800's, but more recent research has proven that it began naturally. Although levels of carbon dioxide and methane change naturally with the orbit of the earth, these gases are becoming more predominant throughout the atmosphere than they would naturally. New evidence proves that global warming started with the agricultural revolution thousands of years ago.

Average temperatures around the world have increased by 1.4 degrees Farenheight since the late 19th century. Not only is the earth warming, but it's warming faster, according to the United Nations Panel on Climate Change because 11 of the past 12 years have been warmer than most since 1850. The most obvious changes are occuring in the arctic because 20% of it has melted since 1970 leaving many polar bears and penguins with less food and less space to live. All of the ice may be gone by 2040 which means the animals that live there could become extinct. The coral reefs everyone loves to look at on vacation are also disappearing and dying due to changes in the water temperature. Some experts in the field also think that the extreme natural disasters and more frequent occurence of them is due to global warming.

A panel of climate experts say that global warming is here, human caused, and will be here even if greenhouse gases are taken under control. The panel says the same thing that everyone has been hearing over and over - land use, fossil fuel use, and agriculture are the biggest contributors to global warming. A new policy laid out by 113 representatives from different countries now agree that the increase in greenhouse gas emissions is "very likely" from humans, with very likely meaning a 90% probability. In 2001, it was decided that the increase was "likely", having a 66% probability of being right. This may cause some people to be a little more concerned, but probably not much more concerned about the effects global warming is having on our planet.
U.S. Environmental Protection Agency. Basic Information - Climate Change. Retrieved February 22, 2008, from http://www.epa.gov/climatechange/basicinfo.html
For the past couple hundreds of years, humans have been burning fossil fuels which have significantly increased the level of greenhouse gases in the atmosphere. Greenhouse gases are necessary to a certain extent, because if we didn't have them the earth would be too cold to live on, but too many of them is a bad thing because the temperature can rise so much that everything and everyone dies, so the earth needs a happy medium. It's kind of like calories, if you eat too many you get fat, but if you don't have enough then you have to energy to fuel your body, so you need just the right amount. The United States has a policy in order to help global warming and decrease the amount of greenhouse gases. The three components of it are to slow the growth of emissions, strengthen science, technology, and institutions, and to enhance international cooperation. In the United States, the energy-related activities we partake in account for 3/4 of human generated greenhouse gas emissions. The health effects of global warming are very important because the rising temperatures can increase the number of people with asthma or make it worse, there could be more incidents of heat stroke and death, and climate related diseases can be spread easier.
Weise, E. (2007, December 5) Report warns of dangers USA faces from climate change. USA Today, p. 8D.
Because of the warming of the earth's atmosphere, there are more expected numbers of heat waves which means there will be more health implications. Many of the elderly are at risk because they aren't able to handle the heat as well and are more likely to die because of it. Late summer droughts will also become more common meaning that it will be more likely for there to be brush fires and wild fires in the western part of the United States which can put more people at risk for death or the loss of their homes. Rising sea levels and decreased soil build up because of poor human management of waterways could lead to wetlands turning into open waters. This will be bad for when hurricane season rolls around because there could be floods everywhere, and not just an increased water level of the wetlands.
Gelling, P. (2007, December 13). Focus of Climate Talks Shifts to Helping Poor Countries Cope. The New York Times, p. 31.
Many from the United Nations say that the poorest countries are being hit the hardest from global warming because they lack the resources to help cut down on harmful emissions. According to the Kyoto protocol, many under privileged nations will be getting funding for helping to reduce their effects on global warming. Some are still skeptical about whether this will really work or not.
Musgrave, R. A. (October 2007). 9 THINGS YOU Need to Know ABOUT Global Warming. National Geographic Kids, (374), A16-A20.
Global Warming is not just happening in the Arctic. It’s happening all over the world. In the past, it was easier for animals to adapt to change in climate because it was gradual, but now it is happening too fast for the animals to keep up and adapt. Many animals habitats and food sources are disappearing, also making it harder for them to adapt to the different climate changes.
Steele, B. &Pleschner, D. (February 2008). Connecting the dots: Global Warming and ocean acidification. National Fishermen, 88(11)8.
The amount of carbon dioxide in the atmosphere has been trickling into the world’s oceans and making them more acidic which are harming the fish and their habitat as well as land animals. It is hitting the plankton the hardest which is a food source for many fish in the oceans. As they disappear, the animals that feed on them are having to find food elsewhere and this is causing a huge snowball effect.

Class the past week
I thought class the past week has been very interesting because of all the different topics people have picked. It kind of gives you an insight to a person's personality sometimes because usually people will pick argumentative topics that they feel strongly about. I feel strongly about the environment because most of the time if you stop and look around, what you will see is beautiful and I don't want that to all go away because humans were foolish and selfish and wouldn't stop it. I thought the video of the eye surgery looked really painful, it didn't gross me out really, it just looked very painful but i know it doesn't hurt because they numb your eye first. The presentation on the CVS was really interesting as well because I don't think i would want to get my baby tested for diseases when it could be killed during the testing, I would rather have a baby with a disease that was alive because even if it does have a disease, I know it will be made out of love and I don't want to kill something I and another person have brought life to. If that is how God wants my baby made then so be it. If there was 100% chance that the baby wouldn't be killed, I would definitely do the testing so I could prepare for the difficulties ahead but I wouldn't change a thing. Another presentation that really got my attention was the body dysmorphic disorder one. I never knew there was such a thing, and i think the media has had a really bad affect on the world because of the complexes it gives people. I wish no one cared what they looked like because that would cause a lot less problems.

Dangers of Climate Change
Because of the warming of the earth's atmosphere, there are more expected numbers of heat waves which means there will be more health implications. Many of the elderly are at risk because they aren't able to handle the heat as well and are more likely to die because of it. Late summer droughts will also become more common meaning that it will be more likely for there to be brush fires and wild fires in the western part of the United States which can put more people at risk for death or the loss of their homes. Rising sea levels and decreased soil build up because of poor human management of waterways could lead to wetlands turning into open waters. This will be bad for when hurricane season rolls around, there could be floods everywhere, and not just an increased water level of the wetlands.
It seems to me that the reason people are reluctant to take preventative measures to protect the earth is because these measures are so expensive. I think it's worth it in the long run to do something expensive because the good will outweigh the bad (the expenses).
Weise, E. (2007, December 5) Report warns of dangers USA faces from climate change. USA Today, p. 8D.

What the EPA says...
Basically they say the same thing everyone elso does - global warming is bad.

My opinion
Personally, I think the world should be more concerned with global warming because chances are, if the arctic circle is gone by 2040 - who's to say our grandchildren and great-grandchildren will even know what polar bears are, or what penguins are. When they see "Happy Feet" - they'll ask - what's that cute creature and are they real? And we, the granparents will have to tell them that no, our generations and the ones before us ruined the planet for them. Not only that, but when they go on vacation, they won't see the beautiful coral reefs anymore and the ocean plant life will be desolate. I think that people take this earth for granted because although its not gone yet, it will be if people don't take care of it. Not only that. but the more acid rain and natural disasters happen - who knows when the 7 wonders of the world will be gone? Sure I'm happy I will probably see all of them in my lifetime, but I want my offspring and their offspring to be able to see it too, and not just in pictures or on TV. Now if all of you could care less about your offspring, be my guest and trash the planet, but chances are you will care so maybe you should all care more about planet earth too.
Global warming caused by Humans - most likely

Global warming fast facts!
Average temperature around the world have increased by 1.4 degrees Farenheight since the late 19th century. Some experts in the field also think that the extreme natural disasters and more frequent occurence of them is due to global warming.

summary
New measurements of air bubble in Antarctic ice suggest that global warming was not started with the Industrial Revolution; scientists believe that global warming began during the agricultural Revolution. New evidence proves that global warming started with the agricultural revolution thousands of years ago.

my proposal
Why the World should be concerned about Global Warming
Abstract
So far, the work I have done has included tons of research in the databases in the UCA library. I’ve sifted through many credible and non-credible sources, posted citations in my blog, and have decided to convince everyone of why the world should be more concerned about global warming.
History
Throughout the 20th century, the world and the climate have changed very rapidly. In 1900, there were 1.6 billion people in the world, whereas now there’s somewhere around 6 billion people which means there are more people and more resources to contribute to global warming. Global warming has had a large part in natural disasters around the world. One of the worst tropical storms during the 21st century was in Bangladesh during 1970 where 300,000 – 500,000 people were killed due to winds and a storm surge. Measurements of air bubbles in Antarctic ice suggest that humans have been effecting global warming before the Industrial Revolution. When humans began clearing fields to plant crops in the Industrial Revolution, carbon dioxide levels began to rise, and 3,000 years later, methane levels began to rise also. The levels of these gases rising didn’t have a huge effect on the Earth, but it was with the Industrial Revolution that significant changes began to occur. So far, scientists have been able to observe some things that are already happening because of global warming. Some things that have been affected by global warming include sea levels rising, shrinking glaciers, trees blooming earlier, lengthening of growing seasons, and the thawing of permafrost. There can also be affects on personal health from global warming. Extreme temperatures can cause direct loss of life, and climate related disturbances in ecosystems can cause changes in the range of infective parasites, which can cause more diseases. Changes in the air quality can also cause damage to the lungs, further harm those with asthma, and lead to other lung diseases.
Objective
I’m writing my paper in hopes of persuading people to become more aware of their effects on global warming, and how this will affect the world later on by explaining the history, what causes global warming, what is happening to the world now, and what people can do to help stop global warming in its tracks.
Technical Approach
In order to write this paper, I have been sifting through the databases in the Torreyson library, and searching through government websites and the National Geographic website with information about global warming and its harmful effects.

More about slavery...
According to the United States State Department, potentially 4 million people were sold into slavery and trafficked and held against their will in 2001. The State Department determined that slave holders and traffickers usually use threats and intimidation to hold people. According to the report, women and children make up the majority of modern day slaves. 50,000 women and children are trafficked annually for sex exploitation into the United States. Victims typically find themselves isolated once they are transported into a new country because they usually cannot speak the language. Trafficking of people usually happens in countries where the economies are unstable as are their governments because usually promises for better pay looks a lot better than the conditions that most people are living in. Trafficking acts that combat trafficking of persons have been put in place, but most people in slavery are hard to find because they won't talk, and the laws just aren't enforced well.

Different kinds of Modern Slavery
Slavery did not stop after Lincoln's Emancipation Proclamation. It still goes on today and there are several forms. It affects men, women, and children. In eastern Europe, women are sold as sex slaves, children are sold between west African countries, and men are forced to be slaves on Brazilian estates.
Bonded labor occurs when people are tricked into getting a small loan and then are forced to repay it by working seven days a week for a whole year. They receive their basic needs to survive as "payment" but several people can never pay off the loan so it keeps going through the generations of their family until they can pay it off. Another type is forced marriage which forced girls and women into marriage that is usually characterized by abuse. Forced labor is when a person/group of people is forced to work by beng illegally recruited by being threatened. Slavery by descent is when people are born into a slave family or a slave caste. Trafficking is a slavery form that is the trading of people to use them for slavery in another area. And last but not least is child labor, which is the practice of employing children in work that is harmful to their health.

Modern Slavery
I began my research about the history of mcdonalds and how to run a store, but i came up with nothing. Instead, i then thought about doing my research on affirmative action, or gambling, but wasn't really interested in either. i ended up with modern slavery, so for the remainder of the year, most of my entries will be about modern slavery.
"Roughly twice the population of Rhode Island are being held against their will as modern day slaves." Most people think that there is no such thing as modern slavery and try to convince themselves that it doesn't exist by referring to it as a low paying job, or inhumane working conditions. Some of the places that harbor modern slaves are Haiti, Sudan, India, and Southern Pakistan. Many children in Africa are sold into industries including domestic, agricultural, and sex industries where they are exploited. Southern Sudan has some of the worst slavery in the modern day, where Arabs from the north kill the men and enslave the women and children, and it's considered a tradition there. In India, children are taken from their homes and forced to weave on looms for food and their sleeping conditions are horrible. In Pakistan slaves are much like indentured servants, but they are forced into servitude if they can't repay their debts. The Dominican army is sent to raid public places to get people harvest sugar cane when there's not enough laborers. Slavery isn't over. It's all around the world and worse than ever.

Critique of last article
To start off, it doesn't say how the dolphins or sea lions are trained; it just says what they are trained to do. It doesn't say why the program started to train them, it just says that they wanted new designs for underwater weapons and vessels. It doesn't say why the raids in Vietcong stopped when there were dolphins on the scene either. The article doesn't say how or why the animals are moving from safe zones into combat zones. It also doesn't say why the general public doesn't hear about these animals or this program more.
Another Summary...
"Marine Mammals are a Force Multiplier"
The United States Navy has taken advantage of the millions of years of evolution that dolphins and sea lions have gone throuhg in order to help them with their missions with mine detection, object recovery, and identifying adversary's combat swimmers. The Navy's highly sophisticated training techniques help the dolphins and sea lions to accomplish these daunting tasks. The Marine Mammal Program began by studying how they can make their underwater weapons such as torpedoes better. Since the 1970s, the program has removed 40 exercise antisubmarine rockets, numerous exercise mines, and it has saved scarce funds by not having to have human divers do the job. Since about 1983, the Navy has developed their expeditionary capabilities to expand their missions from safe zones by sea shores to combat zones and even from ships. The Navy operates their Marine Mammal program under various protectionary acts from the federal government and other protection programs and their program in San Diego, California, is one of the most highly sophisticated programs for Marine Mammals in the nation. The success of these animals in the Marine Mammal Program has generated a proposal to expand their quickresponse capabilities to play a role in aircraft craches and body location and recovery.

Article #2 Summary
Dolphins find mines through sonar. Sonar helps the sound to bounce off of the object they are retrieving or finding which helps them to locate the object. When they find it they attach a float to it so the experts can remove the mine safely. The dolphins are rewarded with fish when they do a job well done; they've found 22 mines in the Persian Gulf so far. Sea lions also help the Navy by locating enemy divers. Once they find them, they attach locking cuffs on their legs so they cant move and a rope is attached that floats to the surface so they can be questioned by American security.

Critique of article 1
The article “Sleek Sailors – The Navy’s Marine Mammal Program” has some deficiencies in it that I would like to address. For starters, it says the dolphins and sea lions were “relatively easy to train”, but it did not say how they were going to train them, or why they were easy to train. The article also says that “the Navy has had up to 150 marine mammals on its payroll” not stating how much was being paid and to whom it was being paid to, whether it be the animals trainers, the animals funds, or who the Navy got the mammals from. It also doesn’t address how the mammals find the mines, how they mobilize the animals, or where the animals are kept. The article could be made much better by addressing these issues because the article is very broad with no specific details.

1st Summary
In the article “Sleek Sailors – The Navy’s Marine Mammal Program” the Navy has discovered how useful and efficient marine mammals can be in helping to design new submarines and underwater weapons. In 1963, the Navy learned in its first experiment that dolphins could be used for military missions as dogs can be used to missions with police forces. Many marine mammals were experimented with to see which could be utilized the best, and the bottlenose dolphin and the California sea lion came out to be the best choices because they were easy to train, adaptable to different missions, and didn’t require a lot of health care. The first mission these mammals was sent on was in war with Vietnam; they were there to help with defense in ports, harbors, and restricted waterways. At first the use of these mammals was speculated among outsiders, but they were reassured that the animals were not killing machines because they already had sufficient weapons for that. However, it is believed that the Soviet Union utilized marine mammals as killing machines during the Cold War, but after the war those programs were terminated. The Navy’s most recent mission with the marine mammals was in the Iraq harbor of Umm Qasar in 2003 where they cleared underwater mines for a safe marine landing. Up to 150 marine mammals have been used in five training programs in the Navy and since the information has become declassified in the 1990s, huge amounts of research have been released.

Plagiarism is BAD
Plagiarism is very serious. It's basically stealing someone else's idea/s and claiming them to be yours. "Plagiarism is an act of fraud." (link) Turning in someone else's work or having someone else do your work for you is plagiarism and should be avoided because it's "stealing".
To avoid plagiarism, you have to give credit where credit is due. If you "paraphrase another's spoken or written words", use "quotations of someone's spoken or written words", use "another person's idea, opinion or theory", you have to cite your source. << Source

the first post
I consider myself an open-minded person, but my deal breakers are if you try to stereotype me because of my religion, or if you try to tell me how to live my life, otherwise I'm pretty comfortable with everything else.
Something i learned from the last person I dated is to be careful and guard your heart because you never know who is going to take it and rip it out of your chest after they've filled it with lies upon more lies. I learned to get to know people more before I put my trust in them.
On Sunday morning at 10 a.m., if I'm not sleeping, which I'm usually not, I'm at church, and I go to a very Southern Baptist church, but is not as stereotypical as most people probably think. When I die, I do believe that I will go to Heaven, and if there's no such thing, then at least i had faith that there was one while i was alive.
Something people keep buying me for gifts that I never use is body wash and body spray because i already have a preference to what I use so I keep using it and just put the other stuff to the side and all it does is pile up and get wasted so I hate when people give me that stuff for a gift.
I have never been an athletic person, and I never ever will be. One sport I definitely will never get is polo, or croquet. I understand the concepts, but I could never play them, probably for the same reason I don't play any other sports - because I'm not coordinated enough.
When I was a kid, I actually owned a three story barbie playhouse and I played with it a lot. I had a very vivid imagination and I still do, which is probably why I'm a little scared of the dark. Not necessarily when I'm in a house, but when I'm outside I get kind of creeped out because of
all the horror movies I have seen.
This has just been a preview of some things in my life, I'm sure there will be more to come.
