My last post! Heck yes.
I guess most people would want their last post to be wonderful, but this one probably won't be. I learned in business today that investing isn't really as hard as it seems, and if you start investing young, you can make a lot of money by the time you're 40 or 50. That seems awesome to me, but then again you have to have money to invest. You can even start investing with $25/ month, which isn't that much if you think about what you can buy with that because the value of the American dollar has gone down so much. These days you can barely by a pair of pants or a shirt with $25, so if you just give up one of those things a month, you can invest. I will probably start investing this summer because i will be working 90 hours per paycheck, so i will have money i can set aside. I will also be getting a refund check every semester of about $1200 if i keep my scholarships so i can also invest that. I guess this is all i have to say so i hope my blog hasn't been too boring.
Fad Diets
I love how people go on fad diets and then after they lose the weight they want to, they go back to eating what they want and then they gain the weight back again. Fad diets are just a good way to sucker people into spending money on a certain product so the smarter person gets richer. People should just stick to their food pyramid and diet if they want to lose weight. It's that simple. Sure, it takes more effort than just grabbing something on the go because you may have to cook something, but people would probably enjoy life more if they slowed down to enjoy it. Most people just keep going 90-nothing all the time so they never have time to enjoy anything until it's too late and they're so old they can't go do the things they always wanted to. Just slow down.
Mass Media
The mass media is nice, it helps get news out and other important things and television shows that everyone loves, but the magazines are kind of ridiculous. The magazines like Star, and National Enquirer are entertaining maybe the first few times you read them, but they run the same stuff over and over. They talk about Britney Spears and how she's crazy, Jamie Lynn Spears and how she's too young to be knocked up and on Nickelodeon, and celebrity divorces. Honestly, who really cares?? That's their business and i'm sure we wouldn't like it if our business was all over the place all the time. They're people too, but I guess they asked for it when they got into the business of being in the limelight all the time. Maybe people read these because their lives aren't exciting enough - just like people that gossip all the time.
42 entries
Okay, so i have no idea what to write about now. I think I've written about everything that somewhat matters. maybe if i had done these entries 3 times a week like we were supposed to, i would have more to write about. I didn't have time to write in this thing 3 times a week because of so much work from other teachers.. i.e. Dr. Stengel. Bah Humbug. My roommate and i are watching Golden Girls and this show is hilarious. I love it, but i especially love Reba. That show cracks me up. This entry probably won't be very long, because i'm rambling and i don't know what to talk about, but i really need an A for my scholarship, so I'm going to figure out something to talk about.
What i hated about my paper
I hated a lot of things about my paper. Global warming is a very VERY broad topic so first it was hard to narrow it down and figure out what i wanted to say in the paper. After i figured that out, i made an outline of all the information i wanted to find and i did for the most part. There was more information about the effects of global warming rather than the cause of it, but i still managed to find information. The National Geographic website has a ton of information about it, and it's very interesting. I know that one person can make a difference and i really want to make a difference concerning global warming but i have no clue where i would start because it's not just an American phenomenon, it's worldwide, and i don't speak every language in the world. A lot of people probably want to help but it's just hard to know where to get started.
Obesity in America
I bet Americans wouldn't be so fat if fast food restaurants weren't so accessible and fairly cheap. Americans blame being fat on the fast food places, but i'm pretty sure those places didn't drag them to their store and make them eat the food. I know my Sonic that i work at wouldn't because most of the customers are rude and don't tip so why would we want those people at our Sonic. Working in fast food sucks unless you have friends there and you make it fun. Sometimes you just have to work crappy jobs to get to better ones, but everything usually works out.
One thing i really hate about working in fast food is that customers treat you like you're stupid, like you're doing that for a living for the rest of your life. I'm pretty sure most people with good jobs these days had to work at a job they didn't like and one that wasn't very prestigious, so everyone needs to realize they have been there, done that before.

Gas prices
Gas prices are absolutely ridiculous. i have a job in jacksonville and i'm about to start riding my bike the whole way because there's no reason for these prices to be so high besides the fact that the gas companies know we will have to pay whatever price they set because we're so reliant on getting places in our cars. Central Arkansas or even all of Arkansas should get a better mass transportation system. If you think about it, the majority of people in Arkansas are middle class and poor and definitely don't have the money for gas at these prices, but if they could pay a flat fee for a bus pass or a subway pass, that would be a lot more beneficial. Gas prices can also almost force someone to live on campus because it's going to get really expensive to commute from jacksonville or little rock to conway. The money for gas and the money for a dorm will probably even out, so either way, you pay an arm and a leg for college (after tuition and fees).
paper revisions
I think that revising our papers is stupid if she's just going to give a lower grade than before. what kind of sense does that make? i mean, i answered all the questions she put out to the side on my first draft and then she came up with more questions - why doesn't she just ask all the questions she wants at the same freaking time??? Let me just say i hate this class. I don't need writing skills in my career. I don't see why we have to take gen ed courses because they just suck up more time and money. I wish we didn't have to become "cultured" people, so we could just do our jobs. I'm just ready to get out of school and everyone else probably is too.

Class being cancelled
Class being cancelled was wonderful this morning. i don't have class til 11 after writing, so i didn't have to get up until 10:30 to go to kped because my dorm is almost right across from the the hper. Next semester my classes are starting at 10 if i'm lucky because i do not want early classes, i'm not a morning person at all. that brings up another point - registration is so unfair because it's not like i chose my last name, but even so, i still get the next to last day to register which leaves me with crappy classes. SOOO NOT FAIR. but life isn't fair so i suppose i will learn to live with it. it's been like that all through school too, everything is done by your last name, i think it should just be free game for everyone, just open up everyone's account to register and then it will be first come first serve.
Residential Colleges
I think residential colleges are very nice for those who want to stay on campus. You can go to class in your pajamas and wake up 10 minutes early just to walk down the hall and go to class. it's wonderful actually, which is a down side to moving off campus. There are also a lot of activities for people to get involved in and get to know each other so that's a plus for incoming freshman so they will know some people after they get to college. A down side is, i guess with all parts of college and life, if you don't find a "clique" when you first get here, you won't really be able to find many friends as easy. With dorms in general, it really sucks if you lose your student id because then you can't get in the dorm and you have to rely on people you know to be there to let you in, but that hasn't happened to me, it's happened to my roommate. Overall, residential colleges are the number one choice if you want to live on campus if you don't want to or don't get into the honors college.

Dorm Life
Dorms. There are several pros and cons to living in a dorm. First i will start with the pros. I think the number one reason they are nice is because you don't have to get up early to make the drive to school, you're away from your parents so you can do almost whatever you want (with the restrictions of university policy), and you don't get anyone asking you everyday if you've done your homework. The cons to living in a dorm are a lot longer than the pros i think. A lot of the people in a dorm are very loud and inconsiderate so it's hard to take naps, your roommate can also be loud and inconsiderate at bad times so it can be hard to sleep or do homework then too. There can also be the problem of cleanliness but luckily i have a clean roommate but if i didn't there would be problems because I'm a clean person. Living in a dorm, usually parents won't buy you food to snack on if you have a job. Overall, i won't live in a dorm.
Parking
I think UCA should get more parking that is convenient. I don't mind walking across campus but i don't want to walk from the softball fields and chances are if you ask most people why they're late to class they will tell you it's because of parking. Really, the commuters are screwed because a lot of teachers have policies where so many tardies are an absence and what if someone is late all the time because of parking? they will get too many absences and then when they really need to be absent they're screwed. I suppose it comes down to whether or not you want to live on campus and get up later, or live off of campus and get up super early.
spring fling
The spring fling looked nice, but i didn't go. i don't really hang out with anyone for school because between work and keeping my grades up i don't have any time and that really sucks. I'm sure i will have time for friends later, but i would rather not have time for friends than pay for my college so i'm just as happy just having my fiancee and then making friends later. They aren't really good for much, just for stabbing you in the back and leavin you hangin so i guess they aren't that great after all.
I'm sorry I'm rambling in these posts, i really don't have anything to write about. So i guess i will talk about my major. I'm majoring in business administration because i want to own several mcdonald's stores. A lot of people think i'm weird for it, but i think it's brilliant because you only have to know how to run a business and even if you don't go to college you can do it. You have to go to Hamburg University where McDonald's teaches you how to run a store and you're set.

class
i'm really glad class was optional for today and friday, especially today because i had a doctor's appt at 8 in little rock. It wasn't fun at all, for them to take an x-ray of my small intestine, i had to drink two glasses of Barium, and it tastes like chalk. I wouldn't recommend it for anyone. I also realized i hate getting up at 8:30 so i'm not scheduling anymore classes before 10 for the rest of my college career. I'm not a morning person at all, nor will i ever be. I went to a health fair in McCastlain today for extra credit for KPED, i was only there for about 5-10 minutes but it was actually kind of interesting.
I know my opinion on this really doesn't matter but i don't think we should have to print out so much stuff for this portfolio because as we all know college students don't have that much money and ink isn't cheap. It really doesn't matter to me because i have a job but i don't want to spend my hard earned money on stuff for school. I don't even have to pay for school, so it's even worse. But what do i know, i don't have an english degree...

Brochures
The brochures i picked up for class were for the Marines, Air Force, and the National Guard. Of course i was a little partial because both of my parents are in the National Guard. All of the brochures had at least one thing in common - they all offered benefits about school, tuition, etc. All of these are big plusses for college aged people because college is so expensive and usually people jump right on the bandwagon when they hear "free money". Actually it's not free because when you sign your name, you agree to do whatever they need you to do. If you want to serve your country, then that is wonderful but you can't forget that you owe the military after they give you money. I think it's nice that they see that school is important so they give money for it. The brochure was a lot easier than i thought it would be to make so that was good.
reflection papers
I wrote a reflection paper last year for my english class but i really just made it up because i didn't learn much besides the fact that i like shakespeare's writing. This year however, i have actually learned stuff from being in this writing class. i have learned that i can write A LOT more than i thought i could, i've learned APA formatting because i've never used it before. All i have used since i can remember was MLA formatting. I've also learned how to find bibliography formatters online which probably isn't something i was supposed to learn. I also learned how to slow down and comprehend things i wouldn't have understood before by annotating them and making notes as i went along. The Grant McCracken article was really hard for me to understand before i started making notes and putting some things into my own words. Now i know when i can't understand something i should slow down and take it one sentence at a time.
spring break
I really wish that every college in the state had their spring breaks at the same time so that everyone can hang out all at once. What if you and all of your friends wanted to go somewhere for spring break but they weren't the same? Should you go to the same school just so they can be the same? or should you skip a week of class or make them skip a week of class to go to panama or cancun or where ever you want to go? None of this seems logical to me. If all public colleges spring breaks were the same it would solve a lot of problems and dilemmas. Or maybe you want to spend that spring break with your significant other - the same problems arise so what do you do? if you're a good student, you don't skip school, you find something to do by yourself or with other friends so that you can keep up your grades i suppose. Of course everyone wishes the break was longer, but then when we came back we definitely wouldn't want to do any work. it's like when you're running and you stop - you don't want to start running again, which would be the same thing that happened in college.
Class skippers and droppers
I don't understand why people skip class so much. I know i wake up a lot of mornings and think to myself "man i don't want to go to class this morning" but i go anyways because you can't make something of yourself laying in bed everyday all day. I guess i will see a lot of people drop out of college through the years because of too much partying or lack of motivation, but i have tons of motivation. I want to show the people that used to be my friends that are going nowhere in life that i am so they can envy me and be jealous that they did nothing with their lives. When i get successful owning a lot of McDonald's stores then they will wish they were still my friends but that won't happen. I also don't want to lose my scholarship either, which is another reason i don't skip class. I am required to have 30 hours each academic year and a 3.25 GPA and if i skip class too much i can get dropped and not have 30 hours, and if i don't ever go, i definitely won't make a good enough grade to have a 3.25 so skipping class and dropping out is out of the question for me. I don't enjoy college by any means, but it's just something that has to be done. it's like a stepping stone to get to where you need to be.
the portfolio
i'm really glad i'm an organized person and know where most of my stuff is for this class because otherwise i would probably be screwed when it comes to putting this portfolio together. So far i have found everything i need to put into this portfolio, i just have to gather how many pages of articles that i annotated because i know i did a lot, but i don't know just how many. We did a portfolio at the end of the year in my AP English class last year in high school and it was fairly easy so i'm expecting the same out of this portfolio. I'm not a big fan of class work or school, but i do it so that i can get somewhere in life unlike my old friends that i've lost between now and last summer because they are going nowhere and i am so i had to leave them behind. i couldn't go out and party every night with them because i have a scholarship to keep because i don't want to pay for my college and be in debt when i graduate. I want to be able to start fresh and not worry about debt. I'd rather create debt by buying a new house or a car or something, not paying off student loans until i'm 35. Even though a lot of people come to college to party and have a good time, that's not why i'm here. i'm here to be successful and have a good time after college.
long time no update
So, it's been a long time since i've updated because i've been swamped with other class work, especially world lit II. Anyways, enough about other classes and back to this one. I finally got my global warming paper done and over with, but i had to revise it so now hopefully i have a better grade on it than what i had before. I'm really just ready to get out of school, it's like i have senioritis again but i'm definitely not a senior. I really hated doing all the research for an 8 page paper - it's no fun at all and i never want to do it again, but i will probably have to within the span of 6 more semesters. We've done a lot between now and the last time i updated. We've done a literature review, an 8 page paper, a brochure, and i'm sure i'm missing some more things. I have learned that i'm not going to take a writing class and a world lit class at the same time anymore, especially if it's Dr. Stengel because that man will make you write. I really don't have to take a world lit class anymore because the requirement is one so i don't plan on taking it anymore. I'm not really an english or science kind of person, i would much rather do math or business than these. Overall i think this class was okay, not my favorite but i didn't hate it. i haven't encountered a "favorite" class yet at UCA but i'm sure i'll find one sooner or later.
